Let Me Introduce Myself

My name is Katie and I love all things reading and organization. I am passionate about helping struggling readers be successful and I want to share these strategies with you. Also, nothing runs more smoothly than a well organized classroom, so I will share tips and tricks to help you stay organized.

Seven years

Seven years. That is how long it has been since my last blog post. How does that even happen? The past seven years have been filled with motherhood, job changes, and adjusting just to re-adjust again. I have felt like I have been missing something. And I have been. I have been missing the creative outlet that creating products allowed me. I have been missing connecting with other teachers. I have been missing helping teachers support struggling readers. So I decided it was time to get back to what I truly love. Creating products to support teachers. Creating products to support struggling readers. Creating products that make learning fun and engaging.

After seven years, I felt that it was time for a refresh. Many of you may know me from Living the First Grade Dream. Now don’t get me wrong, my heart will always be with first grade students, but in my new position I have found a new passion for supporting struggling readers.

New position

I guess I should back up a little bit. The last time that I posted (in 2015!), I had accepted the Title I reading teacher position. After two years, the Title I budget was cut, along with that position. So I moved into another position – the resource teacher. I focus primarily with K-2 students, but some years I help with 3-5. This position has helped me discover a passion for supporting struggling readers and I can’t wait to share what I have learned.

Which brings me to a new name – The Organized Reading Teacher.

blog revamp

Along with a new name needs a new look! I worked with Thauna from Bellano Web Studio and could not be more thrilled with the outcome. She was amazing to work with and helped support me throughout the entire process. She was patient with my never-ending questions and created exactly what I had in mind, but could not seem to get out on paper. As sad as I was to leave behind Living the First Grade Dream, I can’t wait to start this next phase and the incredible colors and fun layout have motivated me to get back into this!

I am looking forward to starting this school year with you!
